MONDAY: Judges 3, 2 Samuel 5:17-25, 2 Samuel 22 (emphasis 22-37), Matthew 6 KEY VERSE: 2 Samuel 22:33 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
TO THINK ABOUT: David heard the voice of God and obeyed. That voice said, “Go.” So did the leader in Judges. Jesus tells us to ask the Lord to not lead us into temptation indicating that God leads. Take a minute and write down the ways God leads you. Do you listen?
TUESDAY: Judges 3, 2 Samuel 5:17-25, 2 Samuel 22 (emphasis 22-37), Matthew 6 KEY VERSE: 2 Samuel 22:33 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
TO THINK ABOUT: There are hundreds of stories similar to these in the old and new testaments. Can you think of some others? God wants us to move. Before we move, God has prepared a way. Once we have determined — like yesterday — where God wants us to go or what he wants us to do, list several ways we can find the path that takes us there. Example: prayer, etc.
WEDNESDAY: Matthew 6, Luke 11 KEY VERSE: Luke 11:4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.
TO THINK ABOUT: Is the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew given to the disciples at the same time as the one given to them in Luke 11? Do a comparison. How are the two versions different? Write it down. Where in the two prayers do we get God’s instructions for us on where we are to go?
THURSDAY: Joshua 1:1-10, Jonah 1:1-2, Genesis 12:1-4, Matthew 14:22-33 KEY VERSE: Genesis 12:1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.”
TO THINK ABOUT: These are more examples where God tells a leader to go. Even after some hesitation by Jonah, all obeyed. God’s plan succeeded. In Matthew 14 Peter gets out of the boat. How does Peter’s getting out of the boat tie to the other verses and the others we have studied this week?
FRIDAY: Joshua 1:1-10, Jonah 1:1-2, Genesis 12:1-4, Matthew 14:22-33 KEY VERSES: Matthew 14:30-31 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
TO THINK ABOUT: Being told to go by God is sometimes very frightening. How does Peter’s lesson help us go the direction God wants us to go? Why is it so hard to believe that we are really called and that God really will make a way for us to accomplish what he has called us to do?
SATURDAY: Judges 3, 2 Samuel 5:17-25, 2 Samuel 22 (emphasis 22-37), Matthew 6, Joshua 1:1-10, Jonah 1:1-2, Genesis 12:1-4, Matthew 14:22-33 KEY VERSE: 2 Samuel 22:33 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
TO THINK ABOUT: Review all of the verses we studied this week. What does the verse in 2 Samuel 22 (above) say to you? Break the sentence down. What is God doing? What are you doing? How do we get to that state of mind? More importantly, how do we stay there?
