Weekly Bible Reading February 1 - February 6 |
|
|
MONDAY: 1 Samuel 4, 1 Samuel 16:14-23, 1 Samuel 28, Isaiah 49:8-26 KEY VERSE: 1 Samuel 4:21 She named the boy Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel."
TO THINK ABOUT: Have you ever experienced this? No feeling in the world is more uncomfortable than knowing somehow you and God have disconnected. Could Israel have changed things in chapter 4? Saul in chapters 16 and 28? How?
TUESDAY: Job (skim the entire book) with focus on 38 - 42 KEY VERSE: Job 1:11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.
TO THINK ABOUT: Did God abandon Job? Why or why not? How do chapters 38 through 42 give you comfort in your own struggle as you try to understand God and your relationship to God? Be specific.
WEDNESDAY: Matthew 27, Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, Galatians 3, 2 Corinthians 5:21 KEY VERSE: Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
TO THINK ABOUT: Why did God abandon Jesus? Why or why don’t you agree with this statement: God sometimes abandons us, too. Be specific with your answer. What can cause that abandonment?
THURSDAY: Isaiah 49:8-26, 30:15-18 KEY VERSE: Isaiah 49:13 For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
TO THINK ABOUT: List three or four verses that stand out the most. How would they comfort you in times of distress and when it seems God is nowhere to be found? Be detailed and specific.
FRIDAY: John 14, 1 Corinthians 15:12-19 KEY VERSE: John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. TO THINK ABOUT: We can be troubled by what God brings us or we can trust him. That is the bottom-line. Easier said than done. What in these verses helps us implement that trust? Make a list.
SATURDAY: Matthew 27, Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, Galatians 3, 2 Corinthians 5:21 KEY VERSE: Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
TO THINK ABOUT: How powerful are the prophecies of Psalm 22 and Isaiah in witnessing to non-believers about the truth and accuracy of the bible? Can you list some other Old Testament prophecies about Jesus that can be used as a witnessing tool?
